Toulouse comes first (ahead of Lyon) in the ranking of the most attractive metropolises in France

For the first time since the Arthur Loyd Barometer was created, Toulouse has taken first place in the ranking of the most attractive and resilient cities in France, ahead of other very large metropolises and in particular Greater Lyon, which had been at the top of the ranking for 7 years.

Toulouse becomes the most attractive (very large) city in France

According to the 7th edition of the Arthur Loyd Barometer the attractiveness & resilience of French cities and the transition of territories, Toulouse wins the grand slam, by imposing itself, against its five competitors, at the top of the ranking of very large metropolises, which are Lyon (in second place), Lille (in third place on the podium of very large metropolises), Nantes, Bordeaux and Aix-Marseille.

To obtain this first place of the most attractive city in France (a first in 7 years), the Pink City performs almost flawlessly, winning on 3 of the 4 themes of the ranking: Economic vitality; Connectivity, human capital and transitions; Quality of life. As for the last theme examined (Commercial real estate and business reception), it only comes in sixth.

Thanks to whom? Thanks to aeronautics!

With a score of 0.521/1 (compared to 0.508/1 for Lyon), Toulouse capitalizes in particular on its specialization in Higher Metropolitan Activities, linked to the field of aeronautics where it continues to develop a high-quality ecosystem (not to mention LuneXplorer, a 16 million euro aerospace flight simulator recently installed at the Cité de l'Espace). No wonder the city has no equal in terms of "Economic Vitality" and "Connectivity, Human Capital and Transitions".

It has also made a difference thanks to more affordable housing costs, as well as urban amenities and facilities - nurseries, libraries, cinemas and theatres - more numerous than most of its rivals. Which therefore allowed it to win the bet on the subject of "Quality of life".

What exactly is the Arthur Loyd Barometer?

The Arthur Loyd Barometer is a study that is divided into 2 main parts: territorialized and thematic analyses to decipher major socio-economic changes, then a ranking of metropolises and regional agglomerations according to their size: Very Large Metropolises (more than one million inhabitants), Large Metropolises (500,000 to 1 million inhabitants with Rennes at the top of the podium and Montpellier in second position), Metropolises Intermediate (300 to 500,000 inhabitants) and Medium-sized agglomerations (100 to 300,000 inhabitants).

To produce this ranking, no fewer than 75 indicators, grouped into 14 items and 4 major themes, are analyzed each year by the Studies & Research department of Arthur Loyd.
