He won the title of best espresso in the South-West by the Collectif Café, Jean-Marc Sanchez is also at the head of three high-quality and friendly coffee shops in Toulouse, where he sells his own roasted coffee and tea that he grows himself in unheated greenhouses. We met this multi-award-winning enthusiast.
A man of passion and ambition
"My core business is tea, coffee, hot drinks.", Jean-Marc Sanchez, business leader
At 51, after growing up in the world of oenology, having worked in agriculture and after several trips to the other side of the world, Jean-Marc Sanchez decided to devote himself to his passion: coffee and tea. "I wanted to present coffees and teas like wines", he told us, before explaining the rest of his adventures.
"I went further in my project by roasting my coffees and making them organic; and I went even further by planting my tea near Perpignan with an adapted and environmentally friendly agronomic model". Today, almost three years after his first plantations, this Toulouse native owns no less than 4 hectares of land and harvests 200 kilos of tea each year, in addition to running three shops: his roasting laboratory in Cornebarrieu, a coffee shop in La Cartoucherie (Purpan district) and one in Toulouse.
The best blend in the South West, it's him!
"I wanted to be a coffee roaster and I opened my first roasting shop in Cornebarrieu in 2020, then I planted my tea in 2021, I opened Acapella on avenue de Castres in July 2022 and the one at La Cartoucherie in September 2023", he tells us. A distinguished career and several awards since in addition to having received an award in Japan for his teas (certified organic in 2024), he recently received the award for best roaster in the South-West for his unique blend.
"I enter competitions to be judged by peers, to have an opinion from professionals on my products", he adds.
By participating in the Collectif Café competition, he actually won the award for best espresso in the region. "It's a competition where you send your bag of coffee with an explanatory sheet to an anonymous jury and for the occasion, I wanted to make a harmonious blend with an aromatic that twists with bitterness and a very gourmet and reassuring aromatic", Jean-Marc Sanchez explained to us about this blend of three beans that allowed him to win his place in the final of the competition which will take place next September.
A cozy and family coffee shop in Toulouse h2>
"I adapted to this place, it's a neighborhood coffee shop where people go to meet after dropping the children off at school.", this roaster assures us.
This coffee and seven other exceptional coffees (compared to thirteen in Cornebarrieu) are sold in his coffee shop located at 2 avenue de Castres , on the outskirts of downtown Toulouse, here you can taste several types of coffee, mainly organic (all purchased from producers in Africa, South America, Central America) which are specialty coffees. > (these are coffees approved by associations and which must respect three conditions: traceability, absence of defects and an aromatic note rated between 0 and 100).
On the menu, you can also find your own teas and other inventive and gourmet hot drinks, but also pastries and gourmet, homemade dishes. All to be enjoyed in a cozy and friendly atmosphere or on the large “hidden” terrace behind, far from the hustle and bustle of the neighborhood.
Jean-Marc Sanchez and his team of professionals are committed to offering quality products 'high quality and local, while remaining accessible to all – moreover the prices remain very reasonable.
