The collection and management of green waste is evolving and becoming egalitarian in the 37 municipalities of Toulouse Métropole. On Monday, June 17, Vincent Terrail-Novès, 1st Vice-President of Toulouse Métropole, in charge of the circular economy, waste and cleanliness, announced the new free and paid features. Here's what will change in July 2024, then on January 1, 2025.
New management for the environmental cause
To achieve the waste reduction targets set by the AGEC law (Anti-Waste for a Circular Economy) and to make the management and collection of green waste egalitarian, Toulouse Métropole will therefore offer, from July 1, 2024, new free services to residents: provision of shredders, home shredding services, or shredding operations in public spaces.
Thus, from this date, regardless of the municipality of residence, all those concerned will now be able to access at the same level.
Because today, the latter "benefit from very variable services ranging from a collection five times a week to no organized collection service, including frequencies ranging from once a week to once a month", explains the press release.
Free resources set up to help the people of Toulouse
To make life easier for residents and allow them to make their own mulch and compost, Toulouse will therefore offer a range of shredding services. This means that from July, shredders will be lent to locals and will be made available at five collection points in the Ville Rose and its surroundings: Fenouillet, Colomiers, Toulouse Roseraie, Toulouse Montaudran and Portet-sur-Garonne, accessible from Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
It will also be possible, twice a year, to request shredding services at home, once the green waste has been cut to minimum volumes of 2 m3. Operations that can only be done by appointment, from Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Training to go further
To help people limit their garden waste and learn how to reuse it, the city of Toulouse also offers training and activities:
- General training to discover all the tips for reducing and recycling plant waste from my garden,
- Training on reducing mowing and unwanted weeds
- Training on composting with plant waste,
- Training on shredding and its use in the garden,
- Training on fertile soil thanks to plant waste,
- Training on garden aesthetics with zero waste solutions
Paid measures for 2025
To ensure a smooth transition, home collection services will be maintained, but will also tend to evolve. Indeed, from January 1, 2025, when, for an annual fee of €120, residents who wish to do so will benefit from 24 annual emptying of a 240L bin.
As for the 13 recycling centers in the region, they remain accessible free of charge to individuals with their mandatory pass.
