Reading Nights 2024: what is the program in Occitanie?

From January 18 to 21, 2024, four days and evenings will be held to celebrate and discoverliterature with more than 700 physical and digital events in Occitania alone. This 8th edition will be on the theme of the body, as an echo of the Olympic Games and Paralympics that the country is hosting next summer. A quick summary of what's coming up in Toulouse!

Cultural places celebrate reading

Reading Nights are festivities organized by the Center National du Livre (CNL) and the Ministry of Culture in order to highlight one of the oldest leisure activities in the world! On the program, various highlights and artistic cultural events in libraries, bookstores, schools, theaters, museums and associative or prison structures. In 2023, the festival had offered 8,000 events in 4,000 locations throughout France and, for the moment, more than 6,500 dates are already planned.

With the spotlight, this year, of the philosopher Claire Marin and the choreographer Angelin Preljocajwho are the godmother and godfather 2024. The first questions, in particular, the notion of identity in numerous works while the second is a multi-awarded choreographer for whom the body no longer holds any secrets. p>

Highlights at the Museum

For the occasion, the Museum of Toulouse reveals anatomy from all its angles by organizing, in particular, a dozen activities including workshops, games and shows.

Thus, the places will be punctuated of “reading cocoon”, designed so that young and old can tell and listen to stories. There will also be shadow shows, comic reading workshops, linocuts, dance readings and rings where eloquence battles will take place. The complete program and timetables can be found on Museum site.

Spectacular visit to the Departmental Archives

It’s a very special place of Toulouse culture, containing treasures and archives dating back 10 centuries, which opens its doors for one evening. The unique opportunity to discover the other side of a decor, usually closed, and in an incongruous way at that! Indeed,the stroll will be punctuated by artistic impromptuduring which dancers, acrobats and actresses will parade for a series of performances exploring the building to discover it from a unique perspective. The uniqueness of the occasion requires, entry will only be by pre-registration and in a small committee!

Saturday January 20, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on registration only. At the Departmental Archives of Haute-Garonne (11 boulevard Griffoul Dorval, Toulouse).

Relaxation, dance, theater... at the José Cabanis media library

The temple of Toulouse culture will offer a very complete approach to the body in the literary field. Multiple genres will be thus summoned, from sciences to anatomy and corpses in thrillers. In addition, a whole host of activities is planned with circus shows and hip dance. -hop, improvisation theater, mime... and, of course, numerous readings, moments of relaxation and meditation Please note that some of the activations will require registration on the day.

Sports nights at the White Pavilion

The Columérins also join the party! The city's media library is taking the opportunity to put together puzzle courses, group games, a digital wall, creative moments, sports initiations and, of course, reading workshops!

In keeping with the sporting theme , introductions to Tripple Drible, basketball version and capoeira while Julia Borderie will present her exhibition "Party game and match". Friendly festivities ideal to mark the launch of the "Sport and culture" initiated by the locality.

Various types of readings all around Toulouse

Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., in the Cugnaux media library, children, adults or children, will be able to discover the final chapter of the tale "The nine extraordinary lives of Princess Gaya", in which the eponymous heroine confronts death and explains how she unlocked its secrets using shamanic powers.

In Saint-Lys, the Once Upon a Time... Bookstore will offer original readings (Saturdays from 6:30 p.m., upon registration) during whicha book chosen at random will guide a leader during a collective reading moment.

In a completely different register, the Toulouse cinema library will organize on rue du Taur readings around the most famous of David Cronenberg's gore and trash films : "The Fly ". The opportunity to address the transmutation of bodies between adults. This will take place on Friday January 19 and Saturday January 20, from 7 p.m. in the company of students from the Regional Conservatory.
