Picasso returns to the Opéra du Capitole for five performances after the success of “Toiles Étoiles” in 2022

From June 12 to 16, the Opéra national du Capitole invites spectators to discover or rediscover, at the Halle aux Grains, Pablo Picasso's love for dance and ballet. Three proscenium curtains designed by the Spanish painter will be in the spotlight in the program composed of three ballets “Toiles Étoiles”.


Picasso and dance: all his soul in the decorations

Pablo Picasso and dance, it's a great love story engaged from the beginning of the 20th century. The painter, fascinated by moving bodiesnaturally attracted to him choreographers and dancers. This is how from the 1910s he participated in the development of sets, costumes up to the design of ballet performances. A sincere and deep involvement which gave him allowed him to play a determining role in certain works. Hisunique styleis transcribed in canvases ofgigantic fabrics with intense colors and strong lines, often serving as a unique decor. These impressive frescoes prove their character by becoming real actors of the ballet.

Hip-hop, flamenco, and neoclassical under the eye of Picasso

In “Toiles Étoiles”, the public will appreciate three rich and very different choreographic works. The Afternoon of a Faun : a firsthip-hop atmosphere is offered to us by the duo of choreographers and dancers Honji Wang and Sébastien Ramirez. The proscenium curtaindesigned by Pablo Picasso in 1965 is here delicate and airy. In “Le Train Bleu”, it is a promise ofcontemporary neoclassicalon the chords of Handel. In this ballet, Pablo Picasso imagined in 1924 a curtain of proscenium massive and impressive. Within the last choreographic movement Tablao , place for the stylized Spanish dance and guitars , for a “cuadro flamenco” with a stage curtain designed by Picasso in 1921.

Prices accessible to all

For these performances at the Halle aux Grains, six price categories are available, from €8 to €63. Young people under 27 and job seekers can claim a reduced rate of €10, children under 16 benefit from a 50% off place next to a parent.
