This Monday, July 8, INSEE unveiled the official list of the most popular first names in France and in each department during the year 2023. Here are those that concern Haute-Garonne. And there are some new features!
The most popular male first names in Haute-Garonne
Like last year, Gabriel is at the top of the ranking with 96 babies (compared to 131 in 2022), followed by Louis with 91 births. On the other hand, Adam took the place of Léo, who therefore comes in 4th position ahead of Noah and Jules, respectively in 4th and 10th place in 2022. Arthur and Maël therefore complete the departmental Top 10 and both lose a few ranks by noting 78 babies for one and 72 for the other.

Raphaël (91)
Adam (89)
Léo (88)
Noah (85)
Jules (81)

Mohamed (69)
Among the little Haut-Garonne, the surprise is therefore the entry of Mohamed, the latter taking the place of Lucas, however attributed 92 times in 2022.
The most given female first names in Haute-Garonne
It is especially here that the year was marked by some upheavals. Alba remains first with 86 children born in the department (against 97 last year). Emma, Alma and Ambre follow the movement, while Jade ranks 5th while the first name was 10th in 2022 and Louise tumbles to 8th place with 62 births. Finally, Charlie and Alice make their entry into the Top 10, thus ejecting Romy and Julia from the list!
Alba (86)
Emma (71)
Alma (66)
Ambre (65)
Jade (65)
Charlie (64)
Lina (62)
Louise (62)
Alice (58)
Anna (57)
Among the girls, even if Alba still tops the list, we can note some nice surprises with the arrival of Charlie 64 times and Alice, 58.
The national ranking of first names
In France, the Top 10 most popular first names in 2023 are very similar to those of previous years, but differ from those of Haute-Garonne.
For girls: Louise, Ambre, Alba, Jade, Emma, Rose, Alma, Alice, Romy and Anna are at the top of the list.
For boys: Gabriel, Raphaël, Léo, Louis, Maël, Noah, Jules, Adam, Arthur and Isaac make up the podium of the ten most popular little names among the French.
While classic surnames still dominate (in 2021, Léo, Gabriel and Louis, Jade, Alice and Louise were already the first), more modern first names like Charlie are starting to appear, but on the other hand, there are still no little (but no less charming) names for 1900s like Lucien, Colette, Marcel, Odette, Fernand, Jacqueline or Suzanne…
