From April 26 to 28, the City Nature Challenge returns for a third edition in the Pink City! International competition, its objective is to encourage residents to make an inventory of urban biodiversity. On this occasion, the Toulouse Museum is organizing two days of meetings, walks and exchanges.< /p>
< p>Taking photos of biodiversity
The City Nature Challenge comes straight from the United States. Its ambition is to motivate residents of cities around the world to identify, record and share the fauna and flora of their environment through a friendly competition. To do this, each participant must bring a camerain order to explorethe surroundings: parks, gardens >, on the way to school or on the way to work, all places are good for repeatingas many living organisms as possible!< br> The participant must then submit photos of their findings, whether of plants, wild animals or mushrooms, on the platform ="https://www.inaturalist.org/" target="_self">iNaturalist.
An objective of protecting wildlife in urban areas
The week following the event, budding scientists will be able to discover the identification of the different specimens that they were able to observe, all by species and by city. The results of the global competition will then be available on Monday May 6 on the City Nature Challenge website.
Beyond being a fun and entertaining experience, the objective of the event is above all a scientific approach whose mission is to informand protectfauna and flora in urban areas.
Meetings, walks, exhibitions with the Museum
During these two days of challenge, the Toulouse Museum sets up different activities to learn more about insects >, plants, birds…
On Saturday April 27, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. a forum “Youth committed to biodiversity” invites participants to question themselves about their commitment and investment. photo exhibitions, entertainments, meetingsand a live radio show are on the program.
During all weekend, scientistsand associationswill hold stands from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to invite the public to take part in their participatory science projects strong>, discover the species present in Toulouse and learn about naturalist photography.
Finally, several walks in the plant garden will be organized between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Last year in Toulouse 572 species were identified and 1700 observations were made. The goal is to make even more discoveries this year to climb to the top of the ranking!
