After Histoire d’Roll, place Au Cômptoir. Opened at the beginning of April, the Franco-Asian restaurant on Place Dupuy offers a small space with a few seats, a concise but incredibly delicious menu and a sunny terrace installed (almost) opposite the Halle aux Grains.
A "new" address on Place Dupuy
After opening Histoire d’Roll at 20 Place Dupuy, Trung Tran and Tian Tran decided to close this restaurant to reopen, in the same place, Au Cômptoir. Same address, but completely different concept since here, we no longer eat Asian fast food (as was the case before), but researched cuisine and Franco-Asian fusion because "all our dishes are enhanced with an Asian touch: sauce, spices…", the owner of the place tells us.
While Trung manages the dining room and the service, he is helped by his wife (a distinguished chef who worked at the Vieux-Pont restaurant in Belcastel in Aveyron) and by chef Grégory Rouvellat, "a chef with whom I set up Histoire d’Roll in 2022, but the cuisine was straying too far from his recipes, so he left and finally, we joined forces in December 2023 to open this second, more “classic” address,” explains Trung, a former IT specialist from a family of chefs.
A concise, seasonal and local menu
"We only work with seasonal products, everything is homemade, and in all the dishes there is either a risotto, rice or a little seasonal puree", Trung, owner of Au Cômptoir.
On the menu, where everything is homemade and cooked to order by Greg, we find "signature dishes that change every three months", like this white asparagus velouté with Sichuan pepper, Vietnamese-style fish rillettes, Là Löt-style veal nuts, Thai coconut-style marinated shrimp, grilled pork fillet with lemongrass or even this large squid stuffed with nuoc mam…
"There is also a tasting menu at €15 or €20 (for the EPD) with two desserts, two main courses and two starters that change every week", depending on the seasonal products and the team's ideas. Ultra-gourmet, spicy and very generous plates at affordable prices and to be enjoyed in the small room or on the sunny terrace facing the Halle aux Grains.
A decoration brought back from Vietnam
From the outside, the customer is immersed in an exotic setting since paper fans are hung on the front, "an idea from my wife", Trung tells us. Inside, "the counter that can seat several people was custom-made by a carpenter from Occitanie", while "the lanterns were brought back from a small town in Vietnam", where the couple goes several times a year to stock up on teas and other local products.
A small restaurant run by enthusiasts with 12 tables outside and 12 tables inside that does not accept groups and strongly recommends booking!
Located in the hyper center Toulouse, Au Cômptoir (Côm meaning rice in Vietnamese) is an address that offers excellent value for money and which allows Toulouse residents and other curious people to treat themselves without breaking the bank and to awaken their taste buds thanks to elaborate neighborhood cuisine.
