The 29th edition of Tempo Latino returns from July 25 to 28, 2024 to Vic-Fezensac! The festival highlights Afro-Cuban music and Latin music. For 4 days, artists with sunny rhythms will perform on stage. For this new edition, talented soloists, brass players and emblematic voices will be there. Tempo Latino offers other activities that will delight festival-goers: musical workshops, hiking, projections, etc.
Passionate artists on the menu
Passionate musicians and singers will take spectators on a unique musical journey with tunes from Cuba, North America and Latin America! For 2024, the patron of the edition is Christelle Durandy. The lead singer of the Grammy-winning Pacific Mambo Orchestra fuses Afro-Caribbean, jazz and other polyrhythmic sounds. All in a flamboyant musical energy!
Big names in Latin music such as Raul Paz, Roberto Fonseca, Ramon Valle and Maïté Hontelé's will be there. The famous Dutch trumpeter will play alongside the collective of young musicians that she directs: the NJJO (National Jeugd Jazz Orkest). Other orchestras will come to share unprecedented musical interludes with the audience! This is the case of La Délio Valdez, a group with influences from Argentina, Colombia and South America. It will make festival-goers dance to Salsa, Rock, Rap, Afro-Cuban Jazz and Reggae tunes.
Open-air shows at the Tempo Arena
Like every year, artists will perform on the festival's main stage: the Tempo Arena! It takes place in arenas dating from 1931 that offer approximately 7,000 seats. The space will open its doors from 8 p.m. every evening to host two exhilarating concerts! Festival-goers will be able to enjoy a unique setting in the open air.
Latin rhythm fans can attend the following performances:
Friday – Raul Paz at 9 p.m. / Roberto Fonseca at 11 p.m.
Saturday – Maïté Hontelé’s NJJO goes Mambo at 9 p.m. / Pacific Mambo Orchestra at 11 p.m.
Sunday– La Délio Valdezat 9 p.m. / La-33at 11 p.m.
Off concerts to continue the evenings
At the same time, off concerts are also organized with shows that will take place on stages located around the arenas. Spaces such as "La Conga", the "Havana Bar", "Cap Tempo" and "Barrio Latino" will be accessible. Many artists will deliver exceptional shows: The Tout Puissant Tropical Orchestra, Pambele, Sabor a mi, Calle Mambo, DJ Mambo Chick, Dj la Furiosa and evenKarla Da Silva will be there.
They will offer colorful songs, bubbly rhythms, frenzied percussion and also festive sets! Maïté Hontelé's and Ramón Valle, a renowned Cuban jazz pianist, will create an event by performing as a duo at the Vic-Fezensac church.
Courses to learn Latin music
In addition to being an event that brings together unique concerts, Tempo Latino offers various coursesthat will delight young and old alike. Budding musicians will be able to learn more about salsa percussion and awaken to rhythmic diversity for 5 days with the Percus course. Dance enthusiasts will also find what they are looking for by taking advantage of Latin dance classes such as Salsa, Rumba or even Mambo.
Beach volleyball, cinema, hiking…
Festival-goers will be invited to enjoy a multitude of activities that will remain in the theme of Tempo Latino!
- Beach volleyball and rugby (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday): the round and oval balls will twirl to the rhythm of Latin music that will accompany the tournaments! Finals will take place on Sunday to decide between the participating teams.
- Cinema in the city center (Friday and Saturday): screenings will delight music lovers. On the program, a screening of the documentary Calle 54 which immerses us in the heart of Latin American music, in the Sony Music studios on 54th Street in New York.
- Pato y Vino gourmet hike (Sunday): from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., festival-goers will walk 10 km of trails that will crisscross the hills, sunflowers and vineyards. The opportunity to taste local products and wines halfway! To end the getaway in style, a cocktail will be served to hikers at Conga beach.
