150 km from Toulouse, nature getaway and disconnection in Mont de Marsan

Mont de Marsan, the prefecture of Landes, is a fortified town founded in the 12th century which stands out as a place of culture, Landes gastronomy, summer festivals and above all... nature! The opportunity for a peaceful getaway to the rhythm of water and biodiversity.

Mont de Marsan, the city of three rivers

Mont de Marsan owes its nickname of city of three rivers to the confluence of the Midou and the Douze which meet in the heart of the municipality to form... the Midouze! A true green city, Mont de Marsan can be appreciated along its entirely redeveloped banks on a former medieval port site: linear gardens, games, illuminations, festive events

Along the water, you can also enjoy the leisure base of Marsan and its many free family activities, its swimming lake supervised all summer, as well as a water fishing lake. All bordered by a white sand beach of 7,000 m2. The Nahuques animal park offers, on 4 shaded hectares, a walk to meet the farm animals, with the added bonus of pony or horse rides!

Marsan Urban Natural Park: total disconnection in the heart of nature

With 300 km 2 of natural sites, the Marsan Urban Natural Park creates a link between town and country thanks to five sites listed in order to observe the fauna and flora of great diversity in this environment. The berges de la Midouze of Mont de Marsanare an ideal starting point. Then follow the Marsan and Armagnac greenway to reach the Limac wetland. This is an opportunity to discover “the little people of Limac”, treasures of biodiversity.

Then go back up to the historic landscaped site of Castets, where you will discover the defensive mounds in use from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages! Then head to l’étang de Massy where amateurs and experts can try their hand at fishing for pike, tench or roach. Finally, in Bostens, the site des Neufs Fontaines offers meadows, ponds and even a old Landes farm, with a herd of 70 goats. Don’t hesitate to choose a guided tour of the park’s forests with Thierry for example, an expert forest guide!

In the heart of the Pouydesseaux ponds, a few kilometers from Mont de Marsan, is the Centre de Biodiversité Jean Rostand. On a 3 km route, visitors follow the explanations on the fauna and flora of the wetlands. A family outing that will please future eco-citizens!

Canoeing, cycling, orienteering...

The sites around the city will also delight sports enthusiasts. The city is known for its numerous sports clubs. Several hiking trails are offered via the greenways. The Tourist Office offers cycling tourism routes. But also: orienteering races, a visit to a farm or even the military aeronautics museum, the Espace Patrimonial Rozanoff.
