New year means new projects for Toulouse and in 2024, there will be a few of them . Here are the 10 key moments, events and information that will mark and evolve the Pink City.
1- 30km/h becomes the norm (and not the exception)
This is a law that was passed on January 1 after consultation during the last municipal council in 2023. From now on, 85% of the streets of Toulouse are limited to 30km/h, compared to 53% before this new “street code” legislation. For Toulouse town hall, this is the guarantee of greater safety for pedestrians and cyclists (increasing numbers), calmer traffic in the neighborhoods and less pollution in the air.
2- Metro line C intensifies and moves forward
If the enormous construction site for the third metro line (from Colomiers to Labège) began in 2022, the year 2024 will mark a turning point. And for good reason, the 6 tunnel boring machines (3 of which were used on the Grand Paris Express) responsible for digging the 27 kilometers of the 21 planned stations will gradually disembark from the spring. Note that a first tunnel boring machine will arrive this January 23 for another major project: the extension of metro line B between Ramonville and Labège.
3- The famous Minotaur returns
You may have seen it in November 2018 (more than 900,000 curious people attended the event) and it returns in the streets of Toulouse in 2024! On October 25, 26 and 27, The Minotaur, who now resides at the Halle de la Machine, will once again set foot on the city's cobblestones for a new urban opera entitled "The Gate of Darkness". Will it be accompanied by other equally spectacular machines? To be continued...
