10 news and new features that will mark Toulouse in 2024

New year means new projects for Toulouse and in 2024, there will be a few of them . Here are the 10 key moments, events and information that will mark and evolve the Pink City.

1- 30km/h becomes the norm (and not the exception)

This is a law that was passed on January 1 after consultation during the last municipal council in 2023. From now on, 85% of the streets of Toulouse are limited to 30km/h, compared to 53% before this new “street code” legislation. For Toulouse town hall, this is the guarantee of greater safety for pedestrians and cyclists (increasing numbers), calmer traffic in the neighborhoods and less pollution in the air.

2- Metro line C intensifies and moves forward

If the enormous construction site for the third metro line (from Colomiers to Labège) began in 2022, the year 2024 will mark a turning point. And for good reason, the 6 tunnel boring machines (3 of which were used on the Grand Paris Express) responsible for digging the 27 kilometers of the 21 planned stations will gradually disembark from the spring. Note that a first tunnel boring machine will arrive this January 23 for another major project: the extension of metro line B between Ramonville and Labège.

3- The famous Minotaur returns

You may have seen it in November 2018 (more than 900,000 curious people attended the event) and it returns in the streets of Toulouse in 2024! On October 25, 26 and 27, The Minotaur, who now resides at the Halle de la Machine, will once again set foot on the city's cobblestones for a new urban opera entitled "The Gate of Darkness". 4- Shops open on some Sundays

Here is news that may satisfy the fashionistas: in agreement with the Departmental Commerce Council, Toulouse town hall authorizes businesses to open 7 Sundays in 2024 Here are the dates to remember:

- the first following Sunday. the start of the winter sales, i.e. Sunday January 14
- the first Sunday following the start of the summer sales,
- December 1,
- the 8 December,
- December 15,
- December 22,
- December 29.

5- The Olympic flame passes through Toulouse (among others)

The year 2024 is undoubtedly that of the Olympic Games. On Friday May 17,the flame (lit in Olympia, Greece, on April 16) will pass through Toulouse on a route of eight kilometersand will thus mark the last stage in Haute-Garonne because it will pass through six other communes on the same day: Colomiers, Luchon-Superbagnères, Muret, Revel, Rieux-Volvestre and finally, Villemur-sur-Tarn.

6- It's the return of the Toulouse Marathon

After three years of absence (Covid period requires and costs considered too high), the Toulouse Marathon, also called "Toulouse Métropole Run Experience" will be held November 9 and 10, 2024. On the program: five events intended for everyone: marathon (42.2 km), half-marathon (21 km), the 10 km of Toulouse, relay marathon (42.2 km) and a race for children aged 7 to 15 years, but also new features and surprises. Notice to Toulouse runners, registrations are open (HERE) since Monday, January 8.

7- The Saint-Pierre bridge confirms its one-way direction

After having proven itself and having a new look, the The experience is validated. The development of the Saint-Pierre bridge now gives pride of place to pedestrians and cyclists, while maintaining a single lane of automobile traffic (in the direction of Saint-Cyprien -> City center)< strong> to guarantee smooth traffic between the two banks of the river.

8- Bigflo and Oli double the show at the Stadium

Because the Tickets for the first date sold like hotcakes (or rather, chocolatines), Bigflo and Oli have added a date to their tour : they will therefore perform at the Toulouse Stadium on June 8 and 9, 2024 in front of more than 15,000 fans (per evening). Two exceptional shows!

If Toulouse wants to be more and more pedestrian, motorcycles and other motorized two-wheelers are also at the center of concerns for this new year. So, to clear the spaces and ventilate the space, bikers have benefited, since January 1, from an exceptional rate of €1 for any parking lasting less than 12 hours in these 3 car parks from the center: Capitole, Matabiau-Ramblas and Jean-Jaurès.

The TFC will challenge Benfica Lisbon on February 15 and 22; VélôToulouse will be at a standstill in July and August 2024 for the installation of new stations and new bicycles (3,330 bicycles will be available VS 2,600 today); the children's hospital will expand and in addition, a disaster simulation center will be created to put its caregivers in a situation.
